Our role
A European Technology Platform
European Technology Platforms (ETPs) are industry-led stakeholder forums recognised by the European Commission.
Each ETP brings together industry, research organisations and universities in one field to agree on the research and innovation that sector needs. Their agendas inform action at EU and national level, supported by both private and public funding.
ETPs work transparently and are open to new members. FABRE TP is the ETP for farm animal breeding and reproduction.
What ETPs do
Develop research agendas
Short- to long-term research and innovation agendas for their sector
Mobilise stakeholders
Bring industry and science together around agreed priorities
Share knowledge across the EU
Spread information and research results across Europe
Why our sector needs an ETP
Knowledge-intensive
Breeding draws on biology, genetics, statistics, economics and ethics. No single organisation covers it all.
Many small organisations
Much of the sector is made up of SMEs. A shared platform gives them a reach they would not have alone.
Long-term research needs
Margins are tight and research takes years, so public research funding plays an important role.
A voice in EU research
Through our research and innovation agenda, we show the European Commission where research support is needed.
Our role
How we contribute to EU research
As an ETP, we turn the needs of the breeding sector into research priorities, and help the results find their way back into practice.
01
We listen
Members and stakeholders share their research needs through surveys and working groups.
02
We set priorities
We bring these needs together in our Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda.
03
We inform EU research
We share our priorities with the European Commission to inform Horizon Europe and other programmes.
04
We take part
We join EU projects and research infrastructures, and help results reach the sector.
Our network
Working with other ETPs
Breeding is one part of the food chain. We work with other European Technology Platforms on topics where our sectors meet.
